gutter section leading to main canopy roof areaScie Construction, in association with Tararua Roofing Ltd., have just completed the application of  Hitchins Index Nova Talc Smooth Finished Torchon Membrane to an old planter box roof at the James Cook Hotel Wellington.
Originally the planter box was lined with Bituthene self adhesive waterproof membrane, but this had failed and was allowing leaks to penetrate through the concrete substrate to the lining underneath the entry canopy overhang. The soil was removed and the Bituthene was warmed up with an LPG flame torch and scraped off, leaving a residual coating of SBS bitumen, perfectly suitable for the application of a Torchon membrane. New roof outlets were installed with the intention to convert the area to an open canopy roof, rather than the original planter box idea.
Index Nova 4mm thick Talc finished membrane was chosen due to the heavy duty polyester reinforcement and the UV stable bitumen coating of the membrane.
All of the Index range of Talc finished membranes ( such as Nova, Defend, Testudo and Fidia) have the added advantage that after the membrane has been laid, the top surface fades to an even Light Grey patina finish very similar to old lead sheet roofs.
