Apply 4mm thick Imper Paralon NT4 waterproofing membrane  to vertical walls below ground and to roof of garage built into sloping bank. Rooftop covered with concrete pavers and used as a rooftop garden/patio area.
This project won the NZ Masterbuilders Assn 2006 National Winner PlaceMakers Supreme award and Renovation Award over $250,000.

the bank has been dug out and the main retaining wall built of concrete block, the paralon NT4 APP torch membrane applied 6 ft high  higher up the wall the second lift of paralon NT4 is torched up to the rooftop level, the corrugated metal above is to protect the bank from rain runoff during the tanking work
the membrane is brought around the front wall of the garage and cut to the slope of the bank  at the rear of the garage the membrane is cut to shape for the stairs from the back door up to the roof level and the main house
looking down from ground level into the main trench  at the rear 4 inch thick polystyrene protection sheeting is fitted against the membrane ready for back filling
applying the paralon NT4 to another retaining wall behind the garage  the rear garage wall , a planter area is also tanked out
the roof top has been poured, a sprinkler keeping it wet with water for the initial cure  two months later some roof work is started, here on the parapet at the front
the front parapet completed. the main area of the garage roof is to be used for loading materials for the house re build, the horizontal tanking membrane is to be applied later  where the roof joins the house extensions the upstand is formed
looking at the entry to the garage and the main house above  2 months later, the roof top is ready to be tanked. the black lines running towards the camera and then to the left are the laps of the wall tanking shown in the first photos, to which the horizontal membrane will be joined
the rooftop is primed with bitumen primer and the paralon NT4 torchon membrane is applied  the laps from the tanking membrane on the walls below ground, onto which the horizontal roof membrane is to be joined
the corner in the previous photo completed  the horizontal roof membrane is joined onto the lap from the upstand at the house side, laid previously
